This week marks the highly anticipated return of Burn It Down Festival which takes place in Torquay, Devon. Featuring some of the best UKHC bands this island has to offer and also bringing across some great international and US artists!

To me, Burn It Down is showing that the UK can showcase all it’s hardcore talent in one place and I am dubbing this the proper UK hardcore mates fest full of new, current and OG artists.

So without going too much into it here are some recommendations for you to check out when you head down to Torquay this week!

Not Without Punishment
(Thursday, Devil Dog Stage, 7:30pm – 8:00pm)

SOHC’s finest in Not Without Punishment take to the stage on Thursday and after catching their set recently in Brighton for Tempers Fray’s release show, I’m sure other bands will find it tough to match their energy on stage.

With NWP’s most recent EP Blood Runs Cold released last April (and to be honest with all their work) they’ve got some proper mosh music for you to dance to. So if you haven’t caught them before you’re in for a lot of movement!

They’re showing you what Southampton Hardcore is all about.

Apathy
(Friday, Red Stripe Stage, 4:30pm – 5:00pm)

Local Devon counterparts Apathy are heading to Burn It Down this Friday and they’ll be bringing you their heavy metal wizardry to hear. I caught these guys back at Phoenix Fest in April and they blew me away with how much presence they have even when they’re all carrying instruments.

Their most recent works A Dark Night For The Soul released last Halloween features tracks such as Root and Web definitely will get your head bopping. Make sure you don’t miss out!

Mentality
(Saturday, Devil Dog Stage, 1:00pm – 1:30pm)

Another band heading their way to the fest this week are Plymouths own and good pals Mentality. These lads have been smashing it in their local scene since their inception and it wouldn’t be a belter if they weren’t at Burn It Down this week.

They released their debut EP Breakthrough at the end of July and if you haven’t listened to it yet you’re missing out because from start to finish it’s just epic riffs. We’ll also be catching them soon in London at Feral Fest!

Get to know them a little more from our interview with them a few months back!

Negative Frame
(Saturday, Devil Dog Stage, 6:00pm – 6:30pm)

Coming of the back of their debut full length album Break The Ice on the 7th August, our good pals in Negative Frame join Burn It Down Fest for the Saturday.

The guys recently announced their album release show taking place this October in London HOWEVER, Burn It Down will be their first showcase since the albums drop. Featuring some hard hitting tracks with a lot of emotion you’re definitely in for a treat. Deifnitely check out New Lows, Rat Trap and…just listen to the whole album!

If you haven’t listened to the album yet or picked up a physical do it now! I’ve got something special in store in the works to keep an eye on with them so…

Bar Fight
(Saturday, Devil Dog Stage, 3:00pm – 3:30pm)

South West Hardcore band Bar Fight from Gloucestershire returned back to the scene after a 6 year hiatus following their set at Readings Joshfest most recent instalment and whilst I was there what a set it was to witness. Most recently they played a local Gloucestershire show with GLHC promotions.

From my interview with the guys back last year vocalist Steve said “Our USP has always been, and will always continue to be mates just having fun” and it is so good to see these lads doing just that. So makes sure you join their fun and mosh around like you own that shit.

Locked Shut
(Saturday, Fireball Stage, 8:00pm – 8:45pm)

With a lot of UKHC representation on show at Burn It Down Festival this summer it’s difficult to forget that we have some great bands coming overseas for the show and one of those making their way across the pond is Missouri hardcore band Locked Shut who make their way over to the UK for the first time and making Burn It Down their festival exclusive!

Locked Shut have been one of those bands I’ve really enjoyed on record since their inception and really bring the gritty two step style of hardcore back to the fold. Don’t forget they are also heading across on a tour of the UK as well and thats worth mentioning as there are a lot of great bands supporting them on this run.

That’s it for now but make sure you head to Burn It Down Fest this week and check out some of my recommendations and just generally try and see and support as many bands as you can whilst you’re there!

Tickets are still available for the fest so don’t miss out! Full poster below!
