Mercurial are a young band from Hemel Hempstead, who are quickly blazing a trail through their scene with their own brand of modern rock.
How did the band start?
Jason and our old drummer came up with the idea and intended on it being a 3 piece band. Geoff joined up to play bass, ended up deciding guitar was more for him and we drafted in Ant. We later parted with our old drummer and then Kieran joined.
How did you choose your name?
Jason came up with the name, I have no idea why ‘Mercurial’. If you go and google Mercurial it’s a football boot. We’re actually a football boot, not a band.
What has been the craziest experience that you’ve had as a band?
It has to be our release show at XOYO in London. Insane show, mental night and some seriously funny stories!
What has been your favourite show to date?
Definitely XOYO! Saying that we just love playing shows! When we supported Fearless Vampire Killers that was also really fun, they have a great fan base so that was fun to play too!
Who has been your biggest influences?
That’s hard to say, influences constantly change. 80’s Stadium Rock has a big part to our sound, Bon Jovi and Def Leppard are definitely up there. However we do try to sway towards modern day rock along the lines of Young Guns.
Who would you dream to tour with?
Personally I’d like to tour with Def Leppard, H.E.A.T, Foo Fighters, Thirty Seconds To Mars, many many many more! Any of those bands and I’d be over the moon!
What influenced your debut EP?
80’s Stadium Rock, our mentality was to think big!
What has been your biggest challenge so far?
Trying to book gigs. Booking gigs sounds really easy, but when you try and move away from the local scene gigs are hard to find. Especially if you don’t have some sort of management. So that’s definitely the hardest part.
How would you describe your sound?
Our sound… 80’s-ish? We’ve definitely found our sound with our new material. We can’t wait to show you it!
How did you feel about the production of your release?
We did it in Jason’s studio, we had actually paid to get it mixed but Jason’s mix was so much better than the one we paid for so we went with his. Our new single ‘Carry You’ was produced/mixed by Justin Hill from Sikth. He’s worked with Young Guns, Yashin, Bury Tomorrow and many more. He’s an incredible, incredible guy! We’d 100% work with him again!
